As theLunar New Year is coming
shortly, there is a big tournament event set ready in Guangdong Province-the 2005
Ladies Asian Golf Tour-WuYi Championship, organized by China Golf Association,
already started today at WuYi Fountain Palm Golf Club Jiangmen. Over 130 lady
golf professionals from 16 countries and regions gathered at Jiangmen to compete
in this event, bringing warmth to the city during the cold winter time.
The
Ladies Asian Golf Tour is newly formed this year and the WuYi Championship is
its only tour in China. The championship will be started from Jan 20th until 22nd
with prize money USD80,000 on offer. The host venue, WuYi Fountain Palm Golf Club
also hosted the 26th Queen Sirikit Cup last April. The success of Queen Sirikit
Cuphad driven the Vice Chairman of the club, Miss Angela Leong to give more support
to develop the ladies golf in China. Especially with the cooperation of China
Golf Association to further organizing more events with the golf associations
in Asia Pacific region.
Today's schedule were the players registration
and also the pro-am tournament. 78 golf club managers and guests participated
the pro-am tournament under a very fine sunny day.
A press conference
was held right after the pro-am tournament. Miss Jiang Xiu Yun- Vice Chairman
of China Golf Association, Mr. Koichi Kato-Founder and Coordinator of LAGT, Mrs.
Rae T. Suwan-Coordinator of LAGT & President of Thailand Ladies Golf Association,
Mr. Zhu Wan Li-Vice President of Guangdong Golf Association, Mr. Douglas Logan-Tournament
Director of LAGT and Mr. Aylwin Tai-Director & General Manager of WuYi Fountain
Palm Golf Club attended the conference. They all expressed their interest and
support to the Ladies Asian Golf Tour.
Five players also attended the
conference and they were: Japan's Atsuko Ueno, winner of 2003 Kosaido Ladies Asian
Golf Circuit Thailand, Korea's Moon Hyun Hee & Park Hee Young being winners
of 2005 LAGT Chinese Taipei and Kosaido Japan-Chinese Taipei Friendship tournament
respectively. The media most concerned China stars-Yang Hong Mei and Ye Li Ying
also attended the conference. Both of them had agreed that the improvement of
their golf skills is mainly from the experience of playing numerous of LPGA qualifying
tournaments in United States. Especially Ye Li Ying, the first Chinese lady pro
who had been qualified in the USLPGA, has a strong wish of winning the championship.
A Welcome Cocktail and Prize-Presentation Ceremony were held after the
press conference. The team from Luhu Golf & Country Club with members of Li
Shao Hong, Dou Dong Lin, Xue Xiao Gang and Japan's Mizuho Kobayashi took the third
place while team of Nanhai Peach Garden Fontaine Golf Club with members of Robert
Henderson, Yip Seong Mun, Alice Liu and US's Lisa Chang took the 2nd place. The
winning team was Zhongshan Hot Spring Golf Club with member of Stanley Hoo, Chen
Gang Qiang, Zheng Jie Rong and Korea's Moon Hyun Hee. Mr. Kato, Mrs. Suwan and
Miss Jiang Xiu Yun presented the prize to each winners. Mr. Liang Qing Xiao, the
Deputy Secretary of Jiangmen CPC represented the Jiangmen Government to make speech
during the cocktail. He expressed his warm welcome to all the players and guests.
The Chief Officer & Deputy Officer of Jiangmen Sports Federation, Mr. Li Yu
Ming & Mr. Liang Min Xiong also attended the cocktail.
The success
of the event come from the support of the sponsorship from different organizations
and they are Hotel Fortuna Macau, Sony Ericsson, Jiangmen Dascom Company, BCLN,
Global Golf, Homichef, Baolang Computers and Tianli Company.
